A well-designed garden pavilion provides the perfect place to relax, but open-sided structures can often become exposed to wind, rain and low evening sun. This project in Spalding, Lincolnshire demonstrates how an existing timber pavilion was upgraded with three motorised retractable screens, creating a far more comfortable and versatile outdoor living space without altering the character of the original building.

The client already had a substantial timber garden pavilion that provided an attractive covered seating area. While ideal during calm summer days, the open elevations left the space exposed to changing weather, reducing how often it could be enjoyed.
Rather than recommending a replacement structure, we carefully integrated three motorised retractable screens into the existing pavilion. Finished in anthracite, the screen cassettes complement the roof detailing and timber frame, creating a clean, contemporary appearance while remaining unobtrusive when retracted.
The screens can be lowered independently, allowing the client to protect the space from prevailing winds, reduce glare from the evening sun or create a greater sense of privacy, all while maintaining the open feel that makes the pavilion such an enjoyable place to relax.
The retrofit has transformed an already attractive garden pavilion into a far more practical outdoor room that can be enjoyed throughout much more of the year.
By upgrading rather than replacing the existing structure, the client has protected their original investment while significantly increasing the comfort, flexibility and usability of the space.
